THE DUNK

James Harden and Eric Gordon got a taste of Filipino streetball at its finest yesterday (July 28) at the Finals of NBA3X Philippines 2013 presented by Sprite at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) Tent.

The ultimate competitions of the three-day three-on-three basketball tournament – which drew 60,000 fans over three days at the double venue -- was moved to the PICC from the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall Sunday afternoon on account of the rain.

Little boys not quite five feet who were members of the RP Team Thirteen Under and wowed the NBA stars as they heaved shots from two-point country in the U13 division. The very young players of the RP Team were only good for a runner up finish, but their ease with the basketball impressed the NBA talents and the avid basketball crowd.

From the tipoff last Friday until Sunday, NBA players James Harden of the Houston Rockets and Eric Gordon of the New Orleans Pelicans graced the events and interacted with Pinoy basketball fans together with the Indiana Pacemates and Grizz, the mascot of the Memphis Grizzlies. Harden and Gordon signed giveaways and threw them to the crowd, getting squeals of delight from the basketball-loving Pinoys.

Games featuring media and entertainment celebrities kicked off the Sunday event at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall, with SM MOA fans liking the basketball grit and savvy of stars they only see on TV. Team Alcaraz, made up of GMA players Marco Alcaraz, Ervic Vijandre, Jose Sarasola and Jack Corpuz ruled the Celebrity division.

The Women's Under-16 division meanwhile was won by Team CAYS composed of Alexis Aguirre, Leezah Sorallo, Mae Ann Herradura and Jeivie Nama. The National University Lady Bulldogs quartet of Nica Villegas, Jack Danielle Animam, Ana Del Rosario and Kimberly Illut won the U18 division over the JASMS Patriots who failed to show up for the match. The Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws -- Mary Angeli Cabochan, Allana May Lim, Marilourd Borja and Karen Columna -- prevailed over Team Mickey, made up mostly of former UP Lady Maroons, in the Girls’ Open, 8-4.

The most exciting game in the Boys' division was the U-13 Finals game won by Escuela de Sophia-1 composed of Saymond Male, Andrei Cariato, Nelle Suminig and Christopher Perio. Their match against RP Thirteen Under went into overtime, as the littlest RP Thirteen Under player connected on a long distance 2-pointer, sending James Harden to his feet due to the excitement.

In the Under-16 division, the triumvirate of former Jr. NBA standout Jan Gabriel Sobrevega, Peter John Rabor and Astrolave Vista of University of Saint La Salle Bacolod dominated the Conquerors, 18-13.

AMA JRS dominated CKSC Blazing Dragons in convincing fashion,  20-7. to take home the Under-18 division crown. The champion team is composed of Clark Quijano, Jayson David, Russel Fuentes and Michael Perez. Besides their prizes for winning the division, the group earned a slot in the Adidas D-Rose Tour series of events on Septmber 15-16 including the D-Rose Tour 3-on-3 Frand Finals. The players will be given Adidas apparel and D-Rose footwear as part of their participation in the D-Rose Tour 3-on-3 Grand Finals.

The Men's Open division finals meanwhile was played between amateur basketball players who were former teammates during their college days. The underdogs EGS Elite pulled a stunner on the favored Blackwater Elite, 21-18. EGS, composed of former NCAA players Rocky Acidre, Mark Doligon and Acidre's younger brother Rutger, overcame Blackwater, the recently crowned champions of the 2013 PBA Developmental League Foundation Cup (D League) composed of Gio Ciriacruz, Robby Celiz, Bacon Austria and Louie Vigil.

NBA 3X 2013 Philippines presented by Sprite was also highlighted by an NBA Cares Activity for Special Olympic Athletes. Eric Gordon, Jr. NBA Head Coach Sefu Bernard and the Indiana Pacemates treated the kids to fun basketball games and drills. Jr. NBA All Stars Alumni dropped by and got the chance to meet Harden and Gordon up close and personal.

Fan activities at the event like the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest; the Sprite Basketball Clinic; the KFC Bucket 3-point Shootout; the Phoenix Fast Feet Challenge and NBA Half Time enabled fans to join in the fun as well. The PBA’s Tower of Power and only Rookie-MVP Benjie Paras and becoming-just-as-illustrious son Kobe Paras dropped by and caused a happy commotion.

A lucky division champion will win tickets to the 2013 NBA Global Games on October 10, featuring the Houston Rockets and the Indiana Pacers in a preseason match at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. The identity of the winning division champions will be announced later.

IMG_5426

A very  informative and science filled afternoon that we have last  July 26 at SM  NIDO Science Museum 2nd Flr. SM MOA. The motif is great and brings the people who will see the museum to ancient time and its discoveries.

Leonardo the Vincci is one of the most prolific inventors in history. His scientific and mathematical approach to art produced amazing three-dimensional artworks that later became basis for modern science. Because of his boundless curiosity, uncanny powers of observation and innovative thinking, he conceptualized machines that were considered advanced during his time.

A veritable polymath, the expertise and interest of this Italian Renaissance genius spanned a wide errange of subject areas. Apart from painting, he was well-versed in the fields of music, architecture, engineering, math, anatomy, cartography, botany and geology. He was likewise an adroit writer, sculptor and inventor.

IMG_5334

Leonardo Da Vincci was popularized by Dan Brown in his Best selling novel Da Vincci featuring his famous artworks like Mona Lisa , The Last Supper and the Madonna on the Rocks. Bur he is actually much more than the artistic genius behind the prominent paintings in the Louvre Museum, shared Arturo Carballo Jr., Senior operations Manager for SM Family Entertainment Center.

“Da Vinci is a prodigy. He was multi-faceted person. He was extremely skilled and talented in both sciences and arts”

Indeed, Da Vinci’s amazing mind was considered as the epitome of Renaissance ideals. ‘A man of numerous talents, a veritable virtuoso.

SM Family Center Inc. (FECI), in partnership with Aurea International Exhibits of Argentina, bestows the Philippines a rare opportunity to experience firsthand the incredible works of Leonardo Da Vinci with its first ever Da Vinci’s Workshop.

This world-class exhibit features 64 moving and dynamic inventions, as well as notable paintings, of this Italian Renaissance man. It is touted as a fun and exciting way to explore the curious mind of Da Vinci without the stuffiness of traditional classroom learning!. Each display features interactive components that visitors can tinker with and peruse up close such as Da Vinci’s helicopter prototype that makes an actual turn or a tank with real moving wheels.

The Da Vinci’s workshop is incomparable with other Da Vinci fair’s because it is more interactive and dynamic. “The concept and caliber of the exhibit is world-class. “It is absolutely at par- if not the best among renowned international expositions”, Carballo adds.

Now Filipinos of all ages can experience the first-rate, educational adventure. “It has always been SM FECI’s advocacy to bring to Manila quality , top-drawer global edutainment programs that are affordable for the Filipino family. We want this to be enjoyed by as many families and kids. Afterall, they are the very reason we invest in bringing international travelling exhibits to SM Mall of Asia” explained Carballo

Children, teens and adults will definitely enjoy this extraordinary journey into the world of Leonardo Da Vinci. This limited engagement will happen from July 2013 up to January 2014 only. Venue is Exhibit Hall, 2nd  Level South Side Entertainment Mall SM Mall of Asia.

bpo

The very first Philippine BPO Virtual Assistant Conference was held last July 20 at the Informatics College located in Eastwood, Libis Quezon City. It was graced by several specialists in the BPO and Virtual Assistance industry as main speakers of the event. It is very rare that an elite group of speakers were assembled in one big event before.

The Philippine BPO and Virtual Assistant industry is rapidly growing in such a very fast pace that the demand for more skillful and highly trained online assistance practitioners has grown equally high, thus the conference was very relevant for many of the attendees who wants to become extra competitive.

Labelled during the conference as the Queen of Animation, Grace Dimaranan of the Animation Council of the Philippines once again confirmed how talented and creative the Filipino animators are. Since I am a fan of all animation even as a child until now, I made special attention on her talk. The Animation Council of the Philippines is a non-stock and non-profit organization whose member companies specialize mainly in, but not limited to, either 2D or 3D animation. It is an organization recognized and supported by the Philippine government whose aim is to promote the Animation Industry globally with the intention of creating an identity for the Philippines to be considered amongst the preferred countries that service the animation industry. Making the afternoon more interesting was Jojy Azurin of Freelancer.com, one of the online companies similar to Odesk.com and Elance.com, shared with us how to market ourselves globally as a virtual assistant. Freelancer.com boasts of being the world's largest outsourcing marketplace, empowering entrepreneurs & small businesses worldwide.Through their website, employers can hire freelancers to do work in areas such as software, writing, data entry and design right through to engineering and the sciences, sales and marketing, and accounting and legal services. Again, we heard more praises for the Filipino online worker for excelling in the online world. What stuck in mind was when he mentioned that we should always keep a family-friendly schedule to value quality time with our families regardless of our hectic schedule.

I guess all animation fans are also comic book fans. So it was a real treat to hear from a comic book artists at the same day. The event was too good to let it pass so Benj Arriola, an SEO expert from Internet Marketing Inc., an Internet Marketing agency based abroad, decided to send in a video presentation of him discussing the SEO challenges faced in a BPO environment. Lastly but definitely not the least, Jay Pasana from the Philippine Virtual Assistant Network shared how to setup a virtual assistant business from home. There was also some testimonials from a few Virtual Assistants that are members of the group. It was interesting to hear from these individuals as they elaborated on their experience, both failures and triumphs, and how their career leveled up since they started their online career as a Virtual Assistant.
http://www.virtualassistant.ph/

Thank you very much to Arianne Symmes, President of GlobalTechSource.net and proud organizer of the 1st Philippine BPO Virtual assistant Conference for a very energetic hosting and for also sharing with us her inputs that will surely help us in our online work. Finally , the 1st Philippine BPO Virtual Assistant Conference was definitely a huge success as it was able to deliver as promised very helpful information to help our current and incoming virtual partners to excel in their chosen field. In fact, there were quite a number of attendees that came from out of town, and even some from out of the country just to be able to attend the conference.
As what a speaker has said during the conference, the world is coming to the Philippines and we need to equip ourselves with the right tools to become competitive, if not "numero uno", and the preferred choice of all potential online employers.

From one of the individuals that made some testimonials, here is what she has to say:
"Today I got to share the story of my Freelancing to Entrepreneurship journey to a group of Virtual Assistant Rockstars. Dear Philippine Virtual Assistant Network, THE BEST KAYO! Thank you! Maniwala kayo, pwede umasenso ng ganda lang ang puhunan!" - Kei San Pablo
I simply can't wait to apply what I have learned at the conference,
