26 July 2012 – Singapore: ONE Fighting Championship™ (ONE FC) has announced that the legendary Gracie family will be represented in a big way at ONE FC: Pride on a Nation on 31 August. Rolles Gracie, Igor Gracie and Gregor Gracie have all been added to the stacked fight card for ONE FC: Pride of a Nation. All three fighters bear a family name that needs no introduction to the world of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). In Manila, the three members of the “royal family of MMA” will be fighting to honor the legacy of the Gracie family name.
Tickets for ONE FC: Pride of a Nation are on sale now through TicketNet at www.ticketnet.com.ph or at all TicketNet outlets located at the SM department store customer service area and at the SMART Araneta Coliseum ticket booth. For inquiries and reservations, please call +63 911 5555. Rolles Gracie was born into the royal family of BJJ and MMA, the legendary Gracie family, and is the grandson of Carlos Gracie Sr., the founder of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). Rolles is physically the largest fighter in the history of the Gracie clan, standing at 193cm tall. On 31 August, Rolles will face his toughest test to date when he squares off against top Australian fighter, Tony “The Gun” Bonello. Bonello is considered one of the top submission specialists in the heavyweight division, with 15 of his 16 victories coming via submission. Bonello will look to notch another submission victory in Manila when he makes his ONE FC debut.
Igor Gracie is a Bellator Fighting Championship and Strikeforce veteran who holds an MMA record of five wins and two losses with four wins coming by way of submission. He is a 3rd degree Black Belt in BJJ and has a list of grappling credentials that is nothing short of extraordinary. Igor is a four-time Rio de Janeiro State Champion, Pan American Championship Silver Medalist and a two time Brazilian National Champion, just to name a few. He knows that a victory over the KO specialist Jung Hwan Cha at ONE FC: Pride of a Nation will get him one step closer to his ultimate goal of becoming a ONE FC champion.
Gregor Gracie is a talented grappler who is both the Pan-American and Brazilian National BJJ Champion. Gregor has chalked up a series of impressive MMA wins since his successful debut in 2007. With the exception of one win by decision, the BJJ black belt has ended all his other fights via submission. Gregor will have to add a few more dimensions to his game when he steps in the ONE FC cage against Nicholas “The Apprentice” Mann. Mann is no stranger to Filipino MMA fans, given that all of his MMA fights have been on Filipino soil. He will look to continue his four fight win streak when he steps up to fight Gregor Gracie on 31 August 2012.
Mixed Martial Arts and BJJ legend Renzo Gracie stated, “Rolles, Igor and Gregor Gracie have never trained so hard for a fight in their lives. All three of my students understand that ONE FC in Manila will be the largest MMA event in the history of the Philippines. They are embracing this experience whole-heartedly and are training exceptionally hard to achieve victory in front of 16,500 fans. The fans in Manila will get the chance to see the next generation of the Gracie family dominate the world of MMA once again.”

LIKE FATHER, LIKE DAUGHTER IN “TAKEN 2”

LIKE FATHER, LIKE DAUGHTER IN “TAKEN 2”

maggie grace and liam neeson TAKEN2

Hit action director Olivier Megaton heats up the action arena with twice the thrill, action and carnage in the upcoming sequel “Taken 2” where the first movie cemented Liam Neeson as this era ’s most relatable action hero being a family man keen on saving his daughter at all cost from human trafficking.

From the first movie where his daughter Kim (Maggie Grace) had been abducted by a cartel of human traffickers, “Taken 2” now follows Bryan Mills and his family at Istanbul where the father of the cartel’s leader is out to avenge his son killed by Mills during his daughter’s rescue. With Mills and his wife abducted this time, Kim tries to save them at breakneck speed taking cues from his father’s infallible timely instructions to track them down.

olivier_Megaton TAKEN2

At the helm of the movie is director Olivier Megaton who was born Olivier Fontana – Megaton being his artistic name that fitted right into the mix of a new wave of action directors. Megaton started working on a number of TV and short projects and eventually teamed up with Luc Besson where he wrote and directed the film “Exit.” It was then followed by the crime thriller “The Red Siren” and continued to work in the production of the game-adapted movie “Hitman.” After the success of “Hitman,” he was then offered to direct “Transporter 3,” which went on to become the highest-grossing film in the “Transporter” series.

In the first movie Bryan’s a guy with nothing to lose. He's divorced and he's lost filial relations, but all that changed when his daughter was kidnapped. “Taken 2” takes it in a whole new platform where Bryan’s got that relationship back and he's even flirting with his ex-wife (played by Famke Janssen). Director Megaton notes that “ It's almost cheesy, but that makes him all the more human at the beginning of the movie because he's not thinking about his training; he's thinking about his family. He's a little less strong, less robotic. He's a little less lonely, and he has some hope in this one. This hope is initially lost because when he tries to have lunch with his wife, he lets trouble in. He would never have invited Kim and Lenora to Istanbul before because he was working and he wasn't sure something could happen. It's sweet and at the same time it gives the character some more humanity. I think this is the little difference that makes the movie more interesting.”

liam neeson reprises bryan mills role in TAKEN2

Megaton confirms that “Taken 2” they detoured from the action sequel’s formula, “Bryan Mills is exactly what people are looking for. You realize that you can change the formula, you don't have to stick to it, but what's important is the character. The fact that this guy has a daughter and she's becoming like him was really the brand new thing in TAKEN 2. Suddenly Kim becomes something different – a real action character. At the end of the first movie she's trying to rebuild her life, she tries to fall in love—the classic American girl—but she has been impacted by what's happened to her. These dark memories arrive suddenly and it makes her different, allowing her to become an action hero like her father. That was the real trick of TAKEN 2,” assures the director.

“Taken 2” in theaters nationwide on October 4 from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

CHinoypreneur Day

CHinoypreneur Day

Chinoy poster

For centuries, the Chinese are regarded as pioneers in business. Ask a non-Chinese about a characteristic that best define them and you will likely receive this answer: good in business (the other is rich but that is the by-product of the first answer). Sometime in June, Forbes released its much-awaited 2012 Philippines’ richest. Not surprisingly, more than half of the 40 entries in the list were of Chinese descent, and not even critics can discount the economic value they contribute to the Philippines.

To date, this phenomenon remains shrouded in mystery. What made the Chinese so adept in business? What made the Chinese become movers and shakers in business at all?

The irony was that the Chinese never intended to become businessmen nor entrepreneurs when they stepped onto the Philippines let alone prosper from it. They were prepared to do anything. Historians and anthropologists agree that the Chinese venturing into business was about survival.

But those days are long gone now. Today, the Chinese fosters an environment that allows the youth to grow up to become entrepreneurs just like previous generations. Fortunately, the community supports such environment and continues to cultivate and harness the entrepreneurial spirits of the youth.

And count “CHInoypreneur” to support such cause.

“CHInoypreneur” is an advocacy project of CHInoy TV, the country’s only trilingual magazine show. This project is co-presented by Multiply.com in cooperation with Philippine Franchise Association (PFA), Go Negosyo, Mansmith and Fielders and the Alliance of Filipino-Chinese Students (AFICS).

Launched in 2011, CHInoypreneur aims to promote entrepreneurship among the youth and to help improve the current state of Chinoy-owned businesses by educating them with different tools, technologies, and strategies in the fields of leadership, marketing, finance, information technology and human resources that would enable them to compete with the bigger and more established companies. CHInoypreneur also aims to foster unity among the Chinoy community across different industries.

CHInoypreneur will revolve around two main projects: the CHInoypreneur day and the CHInoypreneur Challenge 2012.

The CHInoypreneur day is a one-day seminar that will be conducted by different business experts and will invite aspiring businessmen and even college students. Sharing their insights and expertise will be business gurus such as Samie Lim for franchising; Josiah Go for marketing; Randell Tiongson for finance; Paulo Tibig for basics of entrepreneurship and Michaelangelo Lobrin for business values.

Meanwhile, the CHInoypreneur Challenge 2012 is a business reality segment on CHInoy TV that will have college students apply what they have learned from the CHInoypreneur seminar.

Now on its second run, this year’s CHInoypreneur Challenge 2012 promises to be bigger and bolder, with collegiate students showcasing their entrepreneurial skills in a competitive challenge. Some of the participating schools are the De La Salle University, Ateneo de Manila University, University of Sto. Tomas, Philippine Cultural College, Chang Kai Shek College, University of the Philippines, and University of Asia and the Pacific.

The CHInoypreneur Day will be held at the 7th Floor Federation Center in Binondo, on September 1, 2012. Don’t pass this opportunity to learn from the brightest minds of Philippines business, and get a sneak peek at how the CHInoypreneur 2012 business competition will unfold this year.

Registration for CHInoypreneur Day is free. Just visit the CHInoy TV fanpage to register (www.facebook.com/chinoytvofficial).

ESQUIRE FINANCING’s devotion to Philippines’ economic growth.

President Aquino’s SONA reflects ESQUIRE FINANCING’s devotion to Philippines’ economic growth.

Rajan at the 4th annual PhilSME

Data from the Bangko Sentral showed that micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) make up 99.6 percent of the total number of enterprises, account for almost 70 percent of total jobs generated, and contribute 32 percent of the GDP.

President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino‘s recent State of The Nation Address (SONA) stirred up hope and inspiration, given the numbers from Bangko Sentral. Aside from a rundown of his cabinet’s accomplishments and to do list, Aquino proudly emphasized that “what was once the sick man of Asia now brims with vitality”. The President substantiated this claim with the 6.4 percent growth in the GDP in the first quarter of the year, the highest in Southeast Asia. Aquino shared how commentators from the international community have lauded these achievements, with Foreign Policy Magazine even calling the Philippines “Asia’s Next Tiger” and financial giant Morgan Stanley investing a billion dollars in Philippine markets.

ESQUIRE FINANCING Inc’s President/CEO Rajan Uttamchandani shares the country leader’s and the international media’s optimism and believes that more small and medium entrepreneurs take advantage of the strong economy. EFI, the leader in Growth Stage financing, provides hassle-free and non-collateral business loans to growing businesses.

Rossi Sweet RED by Carlos de Rossi

A Different Kind of Sweet

Manila, Philippines - Acknowledging the growing wine-drinking market, Emperador Distillers, Inc., a leading distillery in the country, brings in a new kind of wine that fits the Pinoy taste and is envisioned to change the way we perceive wine-drinking—the Rossi Sweet Red, from Carlo Rossi.

As explained by Von de Torres, Managing Director of Emperador Distillers, there is now a growing acceptance for wine-drinking resulting in a burgeoning market, especially among women. This may be attributed to wine’s perceived health benefits. But here in the Philippines, she says sweet wines are still preferred over dry wines.

This preference for sweetness, according to de Torres, compromises the real wine experience because of the Filipinos’ very high inclination for sweet food and drinks that affect their wine choices. Sometimes, they end up settling on sweet “red wines” or simply alcohol-laced grape juice packed in bottles pretending to be wines.

This is the reason why Emperador Distillers decided to launch Rossi Sweet Red, which is what real sweet red wine should be. Crafted from grapes grown in California’s sun-drenched vineyards, Rossi Sweet Red amazingly bursts with flavor and aroma.

“It is soft and sweet with layers of vanilla, bright cherry and wild raspberry flavors. It has a soft velvety finish and the right alcohol content which is essentially what real sweet red wine should be,” she describes.

The company also encourages a more creative, fun, and less formal way of consuming wine. As opposed to the traditional “long-stemmed glass at room temperature,” Rossi Sweet Red is enjoyed with ice. De Torres said that having your “Rossi on the Rocks” in stem-less wine glasses will let you discover a different kind of sweetness.

E & J Gallo Winery, the manufacturer of Rossi Sweet Red, is a pioneer in innovating the way people imbibe wine. Gallo is one of the biggest wine companies in the United States.

However, the Philippines being a tropical country, needs a bit more leeway with regard to wine. “We’re in the tropics so having Rossi on the rocks lets you enjoy your wine better and even the slight dilution with ice water will not affect its rich, deep red color, allowing only for smooth, sweet red wine.”

While traditional wine-drinkers might scream heresy at wine with ice, some critics have actually noted that some types of wine are better when chilled or served with ice. The New York Times’ wine critic Eric Asimov made it clear in one of his columns that there are types of red wines that are perfect when chilled or with ice.

As a sweet red wine, Rossi Sweet Red can be served in any occasion and paired with any kind of food. It is perfect for celebrating sweet successes, bonding with friends, or for simple lunch or dinner at home with the family.

Rossi Sweet Red is a perfect staple beverage in any celebration, be it big or small, de Torres adds. It is also suitable to be consumed even on ordinary days as it is affordable, and can be a healthy alternative to iced tea or other beverages.

She also encourages wine drinkers to be more prudent in their choices. “These days wine-drinking goes beyond conveying status. Consumers should make more educated choices and be able to differentiate real wines from wine substitutes. That’s the only way one can truly enjoy wine-drinking.”

JUMPSTREET’S JONAH HILL IN ANOTHER OUTRAGEOUS COMEDY – “THE WATCH”

JUMPSTREET’S JONAH HILL IN ANOTHER OUTRAGEOUS COMEDY – “THE WATCH”

THE WATCH

After debuting in the comedy “I Heart Huckabees,” Jonah Hill has steadily posited himself as a solid hilarious support in the string of his movies that followed. Appearing afterwards in acclaimed hits like “The 40-Year Old Virgin,” “Knocked Up,” “Superbad,” “Forgettting Sarah Marshall,” “Get Him to the Greek,” “Moneyball” and the most recent “21 Jump Street” with Channing Tatum which is Hill’s highest grossing film after “Superbad.”

His latest movie “The Watch” which is about to open in cinemas this September 5 (in Phils. cinemas) allowed him to work with Ben Stiller, one of moviedom’s great comic talents. In “The Watch,” four suburban guys formed a patrol which they tagged as ‘Neighborhood Watch’ after a mysterious incident left a security guard lifeless in the town’s superstore Costco. Headed by the civic minded Evan (Ben Stiller), he recruits fun-loving family guy Bob (Vince Vaughn), tough-talking ‘wild card’ Franklin (Jonah Hill) and the recent divorcé Jamarcus (Richard Ayoade).

Even with – or maybe because of – their spiffy new “Watch” jackets, which are emblazoned with fiery wings and a tiger head, the not-so-fearsome foursome initially gets no respect from the residents they’re supposedly looking out for. A group of kids plaster them with eggs, and the local cops think they’re a joke: the Hardy Boys…only far less savvy.

THE WATCH movie

“When they formed this ‘band of brothers’, the guys thought, sure, they might encounter some weird neighborhood stuff – maybe a burglar here, or peeping tom there – but suddenly they realize they’ve facing something extraordinary,” says producer Shawn Levy, the director of such hits as “Night at the Museum” and “Real Steel.” “And The Watch is not just unprepared or unqualified, it’s not remotely equipped to deal with this problem; yet it’s all on them to stop it.”

THE WATCH           THE WATCH

The youngest member of the team is Franklin (Jonah Hill), a twentysomething, militant looking tough guy with, notes Schaffer “a sweetness just underneath.” (He still lives at home with his mom.) Franklin has a planet-size chip on his shoulder because he’s been rejected as a candidate for the police force and all other law enforcement organizations. So for Franklin, The Watch is the only way he can legally kick ass and take names. “Franklin is alienated from, well everything,” says Hill. “He’s very strange and very funny.”

Coming off his Oscar®-nominated performance in the drama “Moneyball,” and executive producing and starring in the critically-hailed hit “21 Jump Street,” Hill was not looking to return to the kind of raucous comedy that had propelled him to superstardom (like “Superbad” and “Pineapple Express”), but he “couldn’t resist the chance to perform opposite alongside Ben, Vince and Richard,” notes the actor. “It was something I had to do.” Moreover, “if I was going to do another broad comedy, I wanted it to have no basis in reality, and portray a character that could say or do anything. Plus, anytime you put an extreme amount of danger in the hands of irresponsible people, you know the results are going to be really wild.”

More of Jonah Hill and the movie in this interactive trailer of “The Watch”http://www.youtube.com/thewatchintl.

“The Watch” is a 20th Century Fox movie to be distributed by Warner Bros. in local cinemas (Sept. 5).

REAL-LIFE SWEETHEARTS PAUL DANO & ZOE KAZAN TACKLE SURREAL LOVE IN “RUBY SPARKS”

REAL-LIFE SWEETHEARTS PAUL DANO & ZOE KAZAN TACKLE SURREAL LOVE IN “RUBY SPARKS”

_DSC2780.NEF

“Ruby Sparks” is the story of a novelist’s vision who inexplicably comes to life, only to prove far more complicated than even he could have imagined. With a light touch and a dash of magical realism, the first screenplay from actress and playwright Zoe Kazan attracted the attention of Jonathan Dayton & Valerie Faris, the married team who directed the run-away hit “Little Miss Sunshine.” The film takes an unpredictable route into fantasy, identity and the ways we invent love – and how love can re-invent us.

Paul Dano plays Calvin, a celebrated author in his younger years who hasn’t had a follow up novel years after his first breakthrough novel. Struggling with writer’s block, disappointed and unfulfilled, his close relationships are with his dog and his brother. Calvin who is cut off and isolated is constantly being urged by his married brother Harry (Chirs Messina) to get out, live, date and write. Finally finding in his imagination a muse for his novel and with his old typewriter, he creates the perfect girl he named Ruby. Barely done with his first chapter, to his astonishment that his character, Ruby (Zoe Kazan) has magically sprung to life and arrived in his kitchen where she is cooking eggs.

_DSC7471.NEF

Life changed as Calvin believes that he willed the perfect woman into his life by the sheer power of his imagination. Ruby leaps off the page and into the kitchen of his house, filling it with her warm and joyful personality. Is he hallucinating? Is this a fantasy? Or is the lovely Ruby Sparks a flesh and blood girl: the girl he has been waiting for? Whether real or imaginary the delightful Ruby turns into a muse who helps Calvin rekindle his passion for writing and his passion for life.

Joining the incredibly talented couple Dano (“Little Miss Sunshine,”“There Will Be Blood”) and Kazan (“Revolutionary Road,” “It’s Complicated”) in the movie are Annette Bening who plays Calvin’s free-spirited hippy mother and Antonio Banderas plays her artistic and flamboyant lover.

Find out what will happen to “Ruby Sparks” when it opens September 19 in select theaters from 20th Century Fox (Fox Searchlight Pictures) to be distributed by Warner Bros.
