Filipinos are less happy in the workplace – JobStreet.com

Correspondents said salary increase, getting a new job will make them happier in 6 months

Last October 25, 2017, Jobstreet.com revealed in Capitol Commons Pasig , That the Philippines’ job satisfaction level dropped from 5.25 in 2016 to its current rating of 4.97 on a 10-point scale. According to JobStreet.com’s 2017 Job Happiness Index, the key factors associated with unhappiness at work are lack of career development and training opportunities, as well as the management style of a company’s leadership team.

JobStreet.com surveyed 9,326 Philippine respondents from July 31 to August 31, 2017. The respondents were from different position levels (predominantly junior executives and supervisors) and represented a diverse mix of specializations. Fiftysix percent of respondents came from the National Capital Region, 12% from Southern Tagalog, 7% from overseas, 6% from Central Luzon, and 5% from Cebu City/Province.

“More and more Filipinos are looking for career development. They want to move forward in their chosen fields, but the lack of career development and training opportunities in their current companies seem to hold them back,” jobStreet.com Country Manager Philip Gioca said.

When respondents were asked what will make them happier in the next six months, 33% said a salary increase would help, but 23% wish to resign and get a new job.

Colleagues and work location make Filipinos happy at work

The respondents who said they were happy cited colleagues, work location, and company reputation as the top three drivers of workplace satisfaction. This is largely true across all demographics.

Baby Boomers are the happiest

According to the study, in terms of generations, baby boomers, or those born before 1960, are the happiest at 5.63, followed by the those belonging to Generation Z at 5.10.

The same can be said in terms of position level, where the top executives or the more established segment of the workforce, which are expectedly populated by the baby boomers, as well as the Fresh Graduates, have the highest happiness score.

Generation Xers barely managed to score above neutral at 5, while millennials, who compose the majority of workplaces, are below neutral with an average of 4.9.

“The results of this study serve as a wake-up call for companies who wonder why there is such a high turnover rate. Career development, training opportunities, and the management style of the company’s leadership team are just some of the reasons why many Filipinos are unhappy in the workplace. It would be best if managers can get to the heart of why this is happening as each company’s DNA is unique,” Gioca added.

The 2017 Job Happiness Index was conducted in Southeast Asia, with a sample size of 35,513. Job satisfaction is highest in Indonesia (5.27), followed by Vietnam (5.19), the Philippines (4.97), Malaysia (4.65), Thailand (4.55), Hong Kong (4.45), and Singapore (4.31).

Goldilocks Launched First Kabuhayan Bakery in Lobo Batangas

Last Monday, October 23, 2017 we the Online bloggers of Goldilocks , Media and the management goes to Lobo Batangas to witness, see and experience how this town was being changed by the mining exploration particularly gold. It was only time to say that we would not want for the people in this place to suffer and lost their other riches such as the Sea and its crafts, the soil products and their tourist spots places that are full of its riches in  resources with the people that are already seasoned to do and make their city and town to race within their sphere of interest.

The Verde Island Passage (VIP) in Lobo, Batangas has the highest concentration of shorefish species in the world. This area, which is famous worldwide as the “Center of Global Shorefish Biodiversity,” is, unfortunately, in grave danger due to excessive mining.

These 3 hecatares of land was turned into organic farming

Most of the residents in the surrounding barangays get their livelihood from small-scale mining and they gravitate towards said trade due to lack of other viable livelihood options.

Moreover , In response to this, the Goldilocks Foundation in partnership with ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation Inc.’s (ALKFIs) Bantay Kalikasan and the Nutrition Center of the Philippines, recently launched a fully-functional Kabuhayan Bakery. It was built so the local populace will have an alternative means of livelihood and reduce their dependence in mining.

The bakery, located in Masaguitsit-Banalo High School, is the first of many planned for other locales around the VIP. It has already hired and trained locals, mostly students, to operate the bakery. Aside from a steady wage, each employee is getting some much needed experience and training so that they may operate and manage their own bakeries someday. They are taught how to bake the bread and how to run the business from a managerial perspective.

Honda Philippines, one of the program’s major partners, also helped in delivering the baked goods to its customers. Honda donated a motorcycle so the bakery’s products may be transported around the city.

Goldilocks, the country’s number one bakeshop, intended to make the Kabuhayan
Bakeshop an integral part of its Foundation’s advocacy. "Through the Kabuhayan Bakery project, we hope that lesser people around the VIP pursue other livelihood options," Goldilocks Marketing Director Cherry Caluya said. “Keeping the populace from mining will definitely help in the conservation of the area,” she concluded.

At the launch, attendees and participants were given the opportunity to see and experience what the program aims to preserve. The guests were toured through the VIP where they went snorkeling, they also visited the areas mangroves, planted seedlings at an organic farm, and marvelled at the beauty of Lobo through the lighthouse.

Also supporting the program are San Miguel Mills and the the local government of Lobo, led by Mayor Gaudioso Manalo.

Philippine Marketing Association brings "An UnConference for the Marketing Throne"

“When you play a game of thrones you win or you die. There is no middle ground.”

In the world of Marketing, the landscape is split into several kingdoms, and in each, a leader is at the helm. Which of the marketing houses do you belong to, what role should you play, and what’s the winning strategy?

Last October 19, 2017 , The Philippine Marketing Association (PMA) team headed with the Chairman Mr. Donald Lim launched and discussed with the Online together with the Media  the new scheme of seminar that would make all the member or delegates be the one who will share their ideas whether old or new i. It is an informal and would just let the programs flow as to where it would lead,  the talks regarding on how and what kind of strategies will affect and give a little more effectiveness in tackling with the issues they encounter and product presentations needed for every kind of environment they may want to tackle about.

It is in fact trying to convey as to the Game of thrones that it will be choosing of Winning or Dying or not getting any deal.

The Philippine Marketing Association, the team that brought you the successful Fifty Shades of Marketing in 2015, invites you to the first ever UnConference in Asia and the Philippines, Game of Marketing.

“I am proud to organize the first Asian UnConference, an unstructured marketing conference where topics are discussed, voted on, and decided before the conference officially starts. We are spicing up this UnConference by playing around with the most popular TV series, Game of Thrones, to which we aptly reapplied and called our conference "Game of Marketing". GOT fans would understand the many marketing learnings in the series, and we intend to bring that to life in this first of its kind UnConference. We have invited the best Asian speakers and facilitators for this first of its kind event. If you haven't attended an UnConference, or simply a GOT fan who is in marketing, you simply cannot miss this UnConference!” says Donald Lim, Country CEO of Dentsu Aegis Network Philippines, CPM Asia Pacific, and Over-all Chairman of the 48th PMA National Marketing Conference.

Kicking off the first day is a pair of masterclass Opening Keynote speakers; David Hearn, Regional Head of Strategy, dentsu X Asia Pacific and Hermawan Kartajaya, Co-Founder of Asia Marketing Federation, President of Indonesia Council for Small Business, and President of ACSB. Adding to this line up of Marketing Greats is Merlee Jayme, Chairmom/Chief Creative Officer of Dentsu Jayme Syfu who will introduce to you the Three Dragons of Creativity, Meng Liu, Head of Asia and Oceania Networks of United Nations Global Compact will discuss Making Global Goals Local Business. Donald Lim, Over-all Chairman of the 48th PMA National Marketing Conference, closes the UnConference as the Closing Keynote speaker.

Arlene Padua-Martinez, President of Philippine Marketing Association, CPM Asia shares her thoughts on the UnConference --- “Just when you think you have the THRONE (market leadership position), think again... in a V.U.C.A. world where other kingdoms fight for supremacy and control, certainty is very unpredictable. Creating passionate ADVOCATES amidst diversity is still the name of the game.”

“In the Game of Marketing, selfishness and greed may win some battles, but the war is always won by those who create meaningful engagements and solid relationships.”, added Mark Vincent Co, Executive Vice President of the Philippine Marketing Association, CPM Philippines.

So, what are you waiting for? Fight for the coveted throne, and claim your seat at this meeting of marketing minds. Leave the conference equipped to face the wild life of Marketing beyond the wall.

Food Intolerance Test: Find out what food works for you

Life Science, is a program based medical approach  that is with Integrated facilities committed to optimize your health by having a program of diet to different individual based on what kind of needs your body may have. The center practices a science-based approached called Functional Medicine which concerns are directly addressed with personalized programs that includes nutrition, fitness plans, medical treatments and tests, base on your unique health goals.

Last Saturday,  October 14, 2017 at their office in ACCRA Law Blg. BGC, Food Tolerance Test is the main topic of the program which helps us understand the kind of patience and discipline we may have to display and achieved.

The FIT is a comprehensive test from Cambridge Nutritional Sciences (CNS)  in the UK, and the only test of its kind in the Philippines, made available in several health facilities , including Life Science Center for Health and Wellness., in the Metro through Global Medical Technologies as their Official distributor of the CNS here in the Philippines.

Dr. Julien Kirby, Global Lab Systems Support Manager and Regional Sales Director of CMD took time to visit the Philippines and in fact a part of the team who developed and established effectively the FIT, Allergy and Auto Immune (AI) products. He said  We all have different reactions to exactly the same foods. What exactly okay to eat for some maybe toxic for others. Food however is  healthy on a traditional sense, can sabotage ones well being if he is intolerant to it".

If your body has an intolerance to a specific food that it cannot process. This means you are also depriving your body with the essential vitamins and minerals that it needs to function properly physically and mentally. If this keeps happening , you are unintentionally harming your body and will eventually lead to a more serious health issues" says Dr. Kirby.

One of our clients have been dealing with skin and hormone issue. The 1st step was to check her diet ,what food goes on her plate.. Though she is eating mostly greens, fruits and fish , and fit she still feels unwell. The results of the FIT showed us that her skin and hormone issues are triggered by some of the food that she is intolerant too." said Marbelle Aban, Registered Nutritionist Dietitian at LifeScience. Then we worked her in making change in her diet. She learned how to eliminateand replace some food items from her diet. Since then, her health issues started to disappear and she began feeling better , healthier " shares Aban.

Because of good results experience by clients , the FIT is now more accessible with more health facilities carrying the test , and at a more competitive cost.

When it was first introduced a few years back, the FIT cost over Php 20,000.00. Today, the test is available at LifeScience for Php 12,400.00 with Nutritional counselling with a physician and a nutritionits dietitian" enthused Genato.

The food intolerance Test is one of the center's tools to help patients heal and make sure that their bodies are at optimal health.

Bounty Fresh Takes Lead in Promoting Health Benefits of Eggs at the World Egg Day

Last Thursday, October 12, 2017, Bounty Fresh celebrated the First World Egg Day here in the Philippines. Headed by the President Mr.  Edwin Chen.

Bounty Fresh, the country’s top egg producer, is taking the lead in promoting the health benefits of consuming eggs daily in the country through various initiatives including spearheading the celebration of World Egg Day this month.

This year’s event will be the onset of Bounty Fresh Eggs’ yearly celebration of World Egg Day. Similar efforts have been done in other countries like Australia, USA, The UK, France, Brazil, Austria and neighboring Asian countries like Vietnam and Indonesia, to name a few.

With its state of the art facilities and using healthy feeds on layer hens to ensure high quality eggs, Bounty Fresh has become the Gold Standard in the Philippines as far as eggs are concerned. Given its standing in the industry, Bounty Fresh wants more Filipinos to add eggs into their regular meal because they are affordable sources of protein, vitamins and minerals necessary in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

“We are optimistic that by leading events like the World Egg Day, Filipino consumers will become more familiar with our products, especially the nutrition-enriched Bounty Fresh Eggs,” says Architect Edwin Chen, Managing Director of Bounty Farms, Inc.

“Despite their affordability, the Philippine consumption of eggs is among the lowest in Asia. This is because of the misconception that eggs are bad for the health because of the cholesterol. We want to correct this misconception,” Chen adds.

Architect Chen explains that an egg has 187 mg of cholesterol, way below the recommended limit of 300 mg per day, or only 200 mg if one has diabetes or heart disease. While table eggs may cause mild increases in Total and LDL cholesterol levels, this is not a cause for alarm. Eggs, he adds, consistently raise HDL (the “good”) cholesterol. In fact, studies show that up to three whole eggs per day are perfectly safe for healthy people.

Chef Stephanie Zubiri shares  some of her favorite dishes with bounty's golden egg

So how does Bounty Fresh achieve high quality eggs? It starts with giving its layer hens the best care and comfort by housing them in environmentally controlled and fully automated houses that are tunnel ventilated. These hens are also given complete vaccination against diseases and are subject to a medication program designed to boost their immune system.

The layer hens are also given the best nutrition formulated by the company’s nutritionist to ensure that it meets the nutrient requirements for body maintenance and optimum production, that is, they can lay the number of eggs expected from their lifetime; with the eggs at the optimum size and covered with high quality egg shells to prevent the entry of bacteria and contaminants; and good quality albumen (white egg) and yolk rich in finest nutrition found on eggs.

Once the eggs are produced, they are brought to storage facilities using a fully automated conveyor. From the chicken house straight to the egg rooms, the eggs are fully secured to make sure that they don’t get in contact with contaminants and bacteria. This procedure will ensure that eggs are fresh and clean, making them safe for human consumption.

At the egg storage facilities, the eggs are then selected and graded by a fully automated computer programmed grading machines. This process ensures that:

-       Dirty eggs and eggs with cracks or “hairline” cracks that are not visible to the eye are removed when they pass through the so-called “candling area” section of the conveyor.
-       Eggs are sorted by the machine and not by human hands to prevent contact with contaminants.

The eggs are stored in optimum temperature that will ensure freshness and quality of the albumen and yolk. A quality assurance team randomly inspects the eggs to confirm meeting the standard quality that the company has set or fixed.

As attested by credible agencies such as the Food Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), eggs are very good source of affordable, high quality protein. They are rich in vitamins D, B2, B6 and B12, as well as a good source of minerals such as zinc, iron and copper, as well as choline.

Because of the vitamins and minerals found on eggs, consuming them will help strengthen muscles, boost the health of the brain, bolster energy production, promote a healthy immune system, as well as lower the risk of heart diseases mainly because of choline, which helps in breaking down the amino acid homocysteine that is associated with the development of heart diseases.

Eggs are also healthful for pregnancy as the nutrients help prevent congenital disabilities such as spina bifida. Moreover, eggs aid weight loss and maintenance, improve eyesight and promote healthier skin.

The event was very informative and the 1st World Egg Day held at the Eastwood Mall was successful in helping us know that there are kinds of eggs that an individual need to eat , produced and made available by Bounty Fresh so that we may have a very healthy and productive  society.

Last October 11, 2017 ,at the DTI International Innovation Bldg Makati City,  QBO announced and launched the top 20 startups companies  that would compete at the 1st Startups TO THE RESQUE  , which will be held in MANILA at October 20, 2017 – Twenty startups are set to compete at the first STARTUPS TO THE RESQUE, an ASEAN-wide startup competition that challenges startups to develop the best innovation solution related to disaster resilience and recovery.

The 20 startups will showcase their products or services in an international pitching competition to be held during the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) annual Slingshot event on October 20, 2017 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).

This competition is organized by QBO Innovation Hub (QBO) – the Philippines’ first public-private initiative for startups formed by IdeaSpace, J. P. Morgan, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), and DTI – in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), The Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF), and Slingshot.

The ASEAN region is home to some of the world’s most disaster-prone countries, not just in terms of natural calamities but also long-running conflicts. The STARTUPS TO THE RESQUE challenge empowers startups from across the region to come up with ways to use their existing products, services, and business models to form creative solutions to pressing global issues, including environmental disasters, outbreaks/pandemics, or violence and conflict.

The final 20 startups were selected from more than 100 innovation solutions submitted by companies across ASEAN during a run-up call for proposals held from 13 September to 6 October, in the lead-up to the International Disaster Risk Reduction Day on 13 October. The startups were selected based on the creativity, scalability, and feasibility of their ideas.

Here are the qualified companies:

All twenty companies will showcase their ideas at Slingshot ASEAN 2017, from which the top six finalists will be invited to pitch on stage. The top three startups with the best pitches will be selected as winners.

“We are proud of what we have seen so far. The participants have great ideas that we can definitely use to solve some of today’s global threats,” said Butch Meily, QBO President. “We are glad that in its first year ‘STARTUPS TO THE RESQUE’ has attracted great minds. We hope that it continues to be a platform where startup companies can deliver meaningful impact to relevant communities.”

“Climate and disaster risks are real threats to people and development – and we have seen this repeatedly in the last decade not just in the Philippines but across ASEAN. Risk and climate-informed development planning is now taking center stage and rightly so. With this competition, we hope to see ideas that can be explored and developed into solutions that will reduce risks and increase resilience of communities,” said Titon Mitra, UNDP Philippines Country Director.

The first prize winner will receive $10,000 as well as an opportunity to work with the UNDP and deploy their solutions with PDRF, one of the world’s leading private sector disaster resilience consortia comprised of the Philippines’ top corporations; the second and third prize winners will receive $4,000 and $2,000 respectively.

More than just a competition, STARTUPS TO THE RESQUE promotes awareness on the different crises faced by ASEAN countries – like the devastating Typhoon Haiyan that ravaged Eastern Visayas particularly Tacloban, and even Vietnam, or the current armed conflict happening in Marawi – and inspires startups to play a more proactive role in preventing and mitigating these disasters. Together, the startup ecosystems across ASEAN can innovate and collaborate with each other with the shared goal of promoting preparedness and resilient recovery.
