Accelerate Learning with Brain Fitness

reception

Last Saturday March 22, 2014 I come to an event where there is brain fitness available at our country today. The idea and concepts were being brought to us by  Singapore technology where all kinds of problems perceived from our children and relatives can be realized and can have a custom built approach depending on the needs of a child or learner.

        activity4 activity2

        activity5 activity6

There are couple of activity rooms that are available on meeting the specific trainings and how they should learn be it on their motor skills , logic and having to used our brain in such a way until the time that it has been flexed like the muscles of our body into the shape where the strength and passion of every subject be stretched into its maximum limits.

As Dr. Steven L. Miller, Research Neuropsychologist in California USA says, that “ Brainfit Studio is at the forefront of applyling neuro-scientific principles in personalized brain training. Their programs are implemented according to the best practices for maximum efficiency and impact.”

Here are some of the frequent asked questions that they gathered and collect :

1. Who can benefit from brain fitness training?

Everyone from a young child to an older individual can definitely benefit from brain fitness training. Contrary to what people used to believe, brain plasticity (changeability) is not limited to children, but is possible at any age. With proper brain training protocols, everyone can benefit from brain fitness training, although improvements are more easily achieved in a child because a young brain changes more rapidly with less effort.

2. Can brain fitness training benefit individuals with learning difficulties/ disabilities?

Yes, BrainFit Studio has trained and gather very positive results (backed by published studies) among individuals diagnosed with learning difficulties such as attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADD or ADHD), auditory processing disorder (APD), dyslexia, language delays, sensory-modulation disorder, dyspraxia and autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

3. Can brain fitness training benefit students already doing well in school?

Yes, BrainFit Studio has helped trained many average and even gifted students – we have a RESULTS GUARANTEE for our BrainFitness Training. Just as physical fitness training can benefit everyone, from the person with poor fitness levels to the top athlete, everyone can benefit from brain fitness training. An average or even top student can still be challenged to perform at an even more superior mental state.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

4. What is BrainFit Studio and where did it originate?

BrainFit Studio is the leading provider of the most up-to-date neuro-scientific-based brain fitness training programs in Asia. It started in Singapore last 2011 and was founded by a team of therapists led by Ms. Cheryl Chia, current Director, who are all passionate about maximizing human potential and transforming lives. It has since expanded across Southeast Asia and has presence in several countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Turkey, and the Philippines. BrainFit Studio Philippines opened its doors in 2011. It is spearheaded by a group of individuals who are experts in the fields of education and health care. Currently, BrainFit Studio Philippines has two centers – Greenhills and Binondo- and another center in Makati is opening in April 2014.

5. What is brain fitness and how important is it?

Similar to physical fitness, which is our foundational body skills that influences our performance in sports, brain fitness is our foundational brain skills which influence learning and achievement in school, work and daily life. These brain pillars namely (i) attention (ii) visual (iii) auditory (iv) sensory-motor and (v) socio-emotions ultimately impact how we acquire new knowledge, retain information, apply learning, and perform to excellence.

Recent brain scan research has also shown that brain fitness is closely linked to our IQ and EQ. Intelligence does not reside in any one part of the brain but rather involves a network of interconnections among the critical brain areas namely attention and working memory, language, visual, and body perception. Therefore, when we build brain fitness in these pillars, we are actually strengthening the brain networks that make us more intelligent! Simply put, a fit brain means an intelligent brain.

6. How does brain fitness training work?

We use the SMART protocol for brain fitness training, which is based on neuro-scientific findings.

“S” is for setting appropriate and achievable goals for the individual, as every brain is unique.

“M” is for measurement using a process called CognitiveMap. It involves two hour-long, one-on-one assessment using standardized tests which profile the individual’s brain in the five key areas of visual, auditory, sensory-motor, attention and memory and social-emotional.

“A” is for adaptation, which is to choose the correct brain fitness training program and level, based on the individual’s brain fitness profile. For successful brain fitness training, mental activities must be just right - not be too difficult or too easy for the individual.

“R” is for rewiring through focused practice. Neuro-scientific research tells us frequency and intensity has significant effect on brain fitness training outcomes.  During a typical 50min training session at BrainFit Studio, a student may be engaged in up to 500-1000 repetitions of the cognitive tasks they are working on. Adequate frequency and intensity of training is vital for maximum results.

“T” is for transformation of the brain and the individual as one follows the SMART protocol. Typically, for an average student, we expect visible and enduring improvements in learning and performance after about 20 hours or ten weeks of brain fitness training. We expect our students to be able to learn better – focus longer, think faster and remember more. We conduct re-evaluations on all our students to measure their gains.

We have 5 different programs that address each of the Brain Pillars: Smart Moves for sensory-motor; Smart Vision for visual processing; Smart Listening for auditory processing, Smart Focus for attention and memory; and Smart EQ for socio-emotions.

7. What makes Brainfit programs different from other enhancement or tutorial programs?

BrainFitness is fundamental requirement to a learning brain that will determine how effectively they will acquire, retain, and process knowledge.

Unlike enhancement programs that target on improving a specified skill and on imparting learning strategies (e.g. drawing; reading comprehension; speed reading; etc) or tutorial programs that provide assistance on scholastic subjects to enable learners to keep up with the academic track, our programs work on the foundational skills needed to accelerate the learning process be it in acquiring and mastering academic contents in school or learning a skill (e.g. dancing; swimming; etc). The focus is on developing and enhancing the 5 critical Brain Pillars so that they will have a more efficient, easier, and enjoyable learning experience. Only when the Brain Pillars are strong and efficient can the student benefit optimally from any enhancement or tutorial programs that they will undergo. Our programs also build intelligence by strengthening the critical brain networks which scientists have found responsible for both general intelligence (IQ) and emotional intelligence (EQ).

8. How do I know if my child should take Brainfit programs?

Take the CogMapTM assessment -- a proprietary tool used to measure and analyze the brain fitness level or cognitive skill of a student. we will be able to identify the key opportunity or improvement areas that are needed to be addressed as well as take advantage of the strengths to achieve success and optimum performance.

9. What age should my child take Brainfit programs?

We have a headstart program that are catered for young kids aged 3-6years old called BrainFit Jr. This is an integrated program covering all 5 brain pillars intended to give a headstart as we prime the young Brain. The SMART Programs, focusing on enhancing core brain Pillar areas, are typically for children 4-18 years old.

PRO EARTH RUN TO KICK-START EARTH DAY 2014 CELEBRATION

 FA_POSTER_ProEarthRun_W DORAEMON-1(1) (1)
Year after year since the 1990’s, the Philippines participates in the worldwide celebration of Earth Day. The Philippines’ celebration is unique in that it is a coming together of government, civil society, and churches to highlight the country’s environmental health and renew their partnership to work for the common good.
Since 1999, the partnership has evolved into a loose coalition called Earth Day Network Philippines (EDNPI) with a Secretariat that directly coordinates the Network’s members from local government units to non-governmental organizations, from business corporations to churches and academic institutions, and from big organizations to individuals who want to do something for the environment. Through Presidential Proclamations, Earth Day has become a permanent environmental holiday of the country and has become a fixture in the national environmental consciousness.
This time For 2014, the children and Earth Day celebration gives focus to CLIMATE CHANGE. This year is special because this time there will be a run for the children which will not only help them in their physique but also for them to be a lover and in their early days learn and be a part of this kind of advocacy for the mother earth, its   important because we have just experienced the onslaught of Super Typhoon Yolanda, which almost brought all our brothers and sisters in the Visayas and Northern Palawan down to their knees. More of these super typhoons are expected to come as a result of human-induced climate change.
Aside from the abovementioned, 2014 is also equally important for the Network because it is celebrating its 15th anniversary. It was in 1999 that Mr. Mark Dubois of Earth Day International visited the Philippines and helped form the Earth Day Network Philippines in the house of the late Odette Alcantara, the founding Country Coordinator. Since then, the celebration of Earth Day has become truly a dynamic celebration with a meaningful Main Event held in different areas of the country to highlight that Earth Day is Everyday, Everywhere for Everyone.
This year’s celebration involves the holding of the “PRO-EARTH RUN” to formally launch and highlight the Earth Day 2014 Celebration and to mobilize resources to support the continuing advocacies of EDNPI on climate change and the conservation of the country’s biodiversity resources.

The Earth Day Network Philippines’ PRO EARTH RUN is presented by Manila Nature’s Link Corporation’s Malungai Life Oil (www.malungailifeoil.ph), a proudly Philippine-made all-natural concentrated vegetable extract noted by the Johns Hopkins University as the world’s first and only product developed from pure Moringa Oliefera seeds and leaves, and the United Parcel Services or UPS. The PRO EARTH RUN is also supported by First Gen, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes, Merrell – ProEarthRun’s shoe sponsor, St. Luke’s Medical Center – ProEarthRun’s medical partner, Greenlite Banner – ProEarthRun’s official printing partner, Globe, Holcim, The Body Shop, Coco Dolce, Business Mirror, The Manila Times, Malaya Business Insight, BusinessWorld, Circuit Magazine, 106.7 Energy FM, 107.5 WIN Radio, SM Tickets, SM Cinema, and the BGC.
PRO EARTH RUN
The culmination of the celebration will be during the Earth Day 2014 Main Event. To be celebrated at the Quezon Memorial Circle, there is where we will be highlighting the network members’ efforts and achievements for the past year. The Main Event is also the occasion wherein the DENR Secretaries have presented the State of the Philippine Environment Address annually. Together with the Main Event is the SANDIWANG: Isang Diwa sa Pagdiriwang ng Kalikasan, an Interfaith Celebration of Earth Day that we intend to be a more artistic and cultural celebration. Also in line is the Earth Day 2014 Advocacy Fair, where individuals can learn more on how they can participate or volunteer in the specific advocacies, programs, and projects of different organizations, national government agencies, and local government units.

Binibinis celebrate International Women’s Day

clip_image002
GIRL POWER – Binibining Pilipinas 2014 candidates show off women’s rights signs with Mr. Brian Poe, Head of the Research Team—Office of Senator Grace Poe- Llamanzares
The 40 candidates of the Binibining Pilipinas celebrated International Women’s Day last March 8 at the Gateway Cinema 5 in a film showing of documentary Girl Rising sponsored by SPARK Philippines Inc (Samahan ng Mga Pilipina para sa Reporma at Kaunlaran), J. Amado Araneta Foundation, and the Araneta Center.
The movie featured the inspiring stories of nine girls all over the world who were born into unforgiving circumstances but overcame adversity. The event also hosted thought-provoking talks on women empowerment from Ms. Czarina Medina-Guce, Executive Director, Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines; Mr. Brian Poe- Llamanzares, Head of the Research Team—Office of Senator Grace Poe- Llamanzares; Bai Rohaniza Sumndad-Usman, Founder, Teach Peace Build Peace Movement; and Zorayda Amelia Alonzo, SPARK Philippines Inc. President.
As representatives of the Philippines to the most prestigious pageants worldwide, the Binibinis embody Filipinas’ strength and character and are champions of women empowerment. In an interview, the girls share their thoughts on women’s rights, gender equality and International Women’s Day.
What can women do for society?
“Women can do a lot of things in society, and we are privileged to be living in an age where we can enjoy freedom to pursue things we want to do and achieve. For me, as a Binibini, I can inspire women to become better versions of themselves and we advocate women to be empowered Filipinas.”—Binibini No. 31 Angelique Celine De Leon
What are the biggest issues for women that we should address?
“I read somewhere that the Philippines is a hotbed for human trafficking, and women are the most susceptible to this. There are women who are being exploited and violated and they were not given the choice to say no. So I think we should promote projects to push awareness on human trafficking.”—Binibini No. 5 Hanna Mariz dela Guerra
What are your realizations this Women’s month?
“This day made me realize the importance of gender equality—that women deserve to be treated equally with men and that women are able and capable of reaching their dreams. As a girl who underwent struggles in my life, I keep these thoughts in mind to fuel me to achieve my goals.”—Binibini No. 36 Krystal Alonday
Who are the women you look up to?
“I work with Noraida Abdullah Karim in CFSI (Community and Family Services International) and she is someone I look up to. She is a multi-awarded social worker who specializes in psychosocial care, and she has helped counsel countless women and children who underwent traumatic experiences in war-torn Mindanao. I admire her because of her passion for the advocacy.”—Binibini No. 22 Mary Anne Bianca G. Guidotti
What can you say about gender equality in the Philippines?
“We are blessed that the Philippines is ranked number 5 in the world for gender equality based on a survey. But at the same time, there are still problems that need to be addressed like abuse in women. But it’s a good thing that we have programs that cater to the abused and empower women.”—Binibini No. 3 Joanna Angelica Romero
If you were to win Bb Pilipinas, what advocacy would you have for women?
“I want to have an organization that would foster and support sexually abused teenagers. Like a big sister-little sister project that would help the victims. Because of my exposure to so many news stories on rape and abuse, it became something I feel strongly about.”—Binibini No. 28 Carla Jenina Lizardo
As a beauty queen, how would you help promote women’s rights?
“I would advocate gender equality. Everyone should be treated with mutual respect. Your race, your religion, your culture, or where you’re from—these things shouldn’t matter. Women should have the freedom to achieve anything they want in life.”—Binibini No. 4 Parul Shah
What can you say about the women’s day festivities in the Philippines?
“I am happy that there is a day for women to be recognized and it’s also an important day for us to be aware of women’s issues. I think awareness is key to solve a lot of social issues women are facing.”—Binibini No. 1 Julian Aurine Flores

BGC Taguig last March 6,2014.  The event was attended by the hottest and most stylish denizens in the metro who bore witness to the naming of this year’s to-watch-out-for list. And to cap the evening’s festivities, attendees were treated to the reunion of the men’s style magazine’s most successful past Young Talents winners.
Besides being an indispensable source for men’s style and grooming, GARAGE is also known to keep abreast with emerging talents in different creative fields spanning fashion, entertainment, design, culture and the arts. It was due to this hotbed of talent that the Young Talents roster of the magazine was created. GARAGE, being a creative force in the fashion industry in itself, nurtures the same spirit in others by turning the spotlight on these individuals whose talents have made an impact in their respective fields. The magazine has been celebrating this creative force for the past five years since its inception. Past winners have included Enchong Dee, Sam Concepcion, Chris Cayzer and more.
The evening began with a fashion show directed by Robby Carmona and sponsored by clothing brand, Folded and Hung. It was then followed by the announcement of this year’s Young Talents list which includes athlete Andre Paras, make-up artist Nikki Duque, stage actor Rafa Siguion Reyna, artist Mano Gonzales, model LA Aguinaldo, designer Lorenz Namalata, muse Janna Tee and writer Margarita Buenaventura.

The theme of the evening was PARADISE SWING and guests were seen in their modern tropical looks reminiscent of 40’s Hawaii, Pearl Harbor and From Here to Eternity. The February issue of GARAGE saw cover stars Enrique Gil, Alden Richards and Elmo Magalona interpreting this theme by donning a special collection featuring a collaboration of brand, Folded and Hung with hot designer, Bang Pineda. The current issue is dubbed as a special magazine because it features not only the current roster of Young Talents but all the past winners as well.
The GARAGE Young Talents 5th Anniversary event is sponsored by Folded and Hung, Blackwater Scents, Skye, Saga Events and official drink sponsor, Hennessy.
