Along with Juliene Mendoza, they are also part of the musical DEKADA ‘70 from Blackbox Productions. Lissa del Valle and Jun Ofracio are music and theater performers and partners at the 9th Studios who have impressive performance resumes including local and internationally acclaimed productions. Lissa as member of the band Midlife Crisis, and Jun Ofracio as cast of Miss Saigon for several years.

These stories are brought to life by directors, John Mark Yap, who directed LARO from Artist Playground in 2019, and Fitz Bitaña, co-director of Tanghalang Pilipino’s Lam-ang. Lending his production design talents is music producer, composer and The 9th Studio partner Roy Del Valle of Roar Audio Productions. Ballet Manila to end 24th season with a triple treat double bill

A double-bill grand finale that also brings a triple treat of classical elements. This is how Ballet Manila intends to conclude its most unforgettable 24th performance season.

Following Sleeping Beauty which was filled with enchantment and romance, Ballet Manila will go on a different route as it takes on a production about tragedy, death, and other inexorable fates of mankind with its latest production – Carmina Burana and La Traviata. This rare and powerful performance will combine classical ballet and music, and opera for a one-of-a-kind spectacular production scheduled on March 7, 2020, 6:00 p.m. and March 8, 2020, 3:00 p.m. at the Samsung Hall, SM Aura Premier, Taguig.

Carmina Burana is a scenic cantata based on a series of 13th-century songs, while La Traviata is an Italian opera that tells the ill-fated story of a beautiful young courtesan wasting away from tuberculosis and her relationship with a young bourgeois from a provincial family. These timeless works of art will be seen in new light with Ballet Manila’s sophisticated dancing and creativity.

Rudy de Dios, a former principal dancer of Ballet Manila, created a choreography based on the music of Carmina Burana, including the famed "O Fortuna." On the other hand, Ballet Manila CEO and artistic director Lisa Macuja Elizalde brought the story of Violetta and Alfredo to life once again by choreographing La Traviata.

Leading the ensemble of Carmina Burana are Romeo Peralta as Solom, Gerardo Francisco as Spreo, Joan Sia as Agape, and John Ralp Balagot as Atheos. On the other hand, La Traviata will come to life with Nicole Barroso as Violetta, Mark Sumaylo as Alfredo, John Ralp Balagot as Giorgio Germont, and Joshua Enciso as Baron.

Ballet Manila’s Carmina Burana and La Traviata is truly something to look forward to because, aside from great display of artistry, this spectacle will mark the end of a challenging yet fulfilling season filled with a lot of ups and downs for Ballet Manila.

It is just our third visit to Manila but we have started to witness the power of books being able to transform lives. We try to bring the price of books as low as we can so that it will not be a barrier for anyone who wants to read. To kick-start the initiative, the Sale has pledged 1000 books to Gawad Kalinga, the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale’s longstanding partner, a Philippines-based poverty alleviation movement that aims to provide a better life for the poor by teaching them self-reliance. The collected books will be distributed by Gawad Kalinga to the people in the affected communities of the Taal volcano in Batangas and to the communities, barangays and public schools in Mindoro to provide them with psychosocial rehabilitation.

The Big Bad Wolf Book Sale is making the safety of its visitors its priority with the concerns regarding the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV). The Place He Wants to Come Home to for His Dad’s Original Recipes, Leveled up!

Last Saturday February 8, 2020, we had a good time tasting this great Filipino food offered at Rafael's Tapa's Bar located at the New Wing of Resort World Manila which was being managed by a son who just want to pay tribute to his father who has left them 3 years ago, showing some respect and honour for the foods that they are having as a family while  lingering and enjoying so much as day after day without noticing that it one day comes to an end.

Entrepreneur Henjie Carmona launches Rafael’s Tapas Bar and Restaurant at Resorts World Manila to share his father Rafael’s passion for home-cooked dishes, his mother Petronila’s elegant homemaking, and his penchant for art collecting to the upscale hotel-casino complex’s food, wine, and fun loving clientele of high rollers, junkets, and the fancy set.
“I want to offer them a place to come home to not only for familiar but original home recipes that have been leveled up for their discriminating tastes,” he said, “but also to cozy up, chill, and unwind after spending hours playing and gaming.”
Although he’s a communication research graduate by degree and initially a banker by profession, Carmona has been in the hotel and restaurant industry for more than two decades now. His group having pioneered the condotel (condominium + hotel) format and the executive breakfast lounge, he wanted to challenge himself further by offering ala carte.
Here  are the  Lessons he learned from His Father:
“Opening Rafael’s isn’t a childhood dream, but everything that went into it has been inspired by my dad who taught me all I need about food and cooking,” Carmona confessed. “First, good food is all about freshness—meaning, nothing stays long in the freezer, nothing canned is used, and everything is made in-house, even the pasta and especially the sauces.”
He reminisces how his father never allowed helpers to cook, reserving that privilege and honor for the head of the family, and made sure to prepare their meals himself every weekend despite being swamped by his business all week.
“I’d remember craving for his signature dinuguan (pork blood stew) and lechon (roasted suckling pig) pairing while Matt Monroe wafts in the air,” he recalls, adding that this time it’s not just about taste, but also being Instagrammable. Thus, all Rafael’s dishes are plated with delicate artistry worthy of being photographed and shared (pun intended).
“Second, you never ask your guests if they have eaten already or if they want to eat or not,” Carmona explained. Not only would it put off guests as an excuse for lack of preparation or not having enough food, it would also give an impression that hospitality is not one’s forte,

He assured that there’s no compromising quality in the dining experience at Rafael’s, where groups of 10 to 15 can avail of the posh Petronila VIP mezzanine room for a consumable reserve price of P200K which comes with the mandatory Wi-Fi and a flat-screen TV that can be hooked up to Resort World shows. “For that, it’s the sky’s the limit from cocktail drinks at P400 per pop to exquisite bottles of Remy Martin Louis XIII and Dalmore 25!”
“Third, food is everybody’s game,” Carmona concluded, “just like my father said everything’s done with food: deals closed, relationships opened, victories celebrated, wrongs amended, and sins forgiven.” Nobody loses with food and the best businesses invest in it.

Thus Rafael’s is that rare mall space where you not only find the most original tasting dishes but also the most fastidiously interior decorated restaurant where diners eat and drink surrounded by towering Toto Aguilon wire spires, commissioned paintings from artists Tanya Gaisano Lee and Angelo Tabije, John Lloyd Cruz photographs, red and black draped tables, golden trumpet chandeliers, and a golden washroom!
Rafael’s Specialties

“All our dishes are all-time familiar favorites that offer a unique twist in taste and presentation,” Carmona beamed as he introduced Rafael’s house specialties, which have interesting, oftentimes intriguing, names.
For their signature tapas or appetizers, they have their ritzy rendition of chicken skin—Chicken that Crossed the Road (P380) served with chili malt vinegar, pickled carrot, and radish puree, which are extra crunchy along with their classy version of gambas—Miss Gump in Hot Flashes (P720) with black garlic and Chardonnay roasted chilis and lemon.
For dinner, they have First Love (P1150)—spicy soft shelled crab risotto with homemade chorizo and chicken thigh charged with lemon—which is as crispy as they are tasty and Blackened Angus Ribeye (P2900)—prime steak with corn and zucchini succotash and chimichurri sauce—which is the most expensive standalone item on the menu.
Capping every meal or visit, guests ought to make sure they try The Big Bang Theory (P390)—a delicately sweet triple nut, three-layered cake of butter and dark chocolate cake revelation, their version of “Choc Nut”, revealed Chef Jinggoy Fernando—for dessert to complete the Rafael’s experience.
“The concept behind all these is simple,” Henjie Carmona said summing up: “I want Rafael’s to be that kind of place where you always want to come back to every day because it’s home and the food reminds you of family,”

Here are the food we tasted :
