A Vivid Review of the Cannes winner “Taklub” Directed by Brillante Mendoza
This films objective is so clear that amidst all the struggles this part of the region of our country the Philippines face every year, there’s no other alternative but just to go on with life in its course without any kind of assurance from the corrupt government wishing that some kind of long term solution that may at least lessen major things that may come its way for the latter years. Not to mention the post traumatic stressed that an individual may have be it on the elder or younger ones.
Direk Brillante’s attacked to this problem was so Intelligently motivated that it does not used any political agenda yet gives more emphasis on the problems the country is facing every rainy season. Thus prompting those big and known nations to help the victims in this kind of situations .
During the interview held at his own Cafe business with his partner Chef Allan Garcia called FILMFEST CAFE, which is one of his first venture to the food and beverage industry making it more relevant to his craft naming it to the closest event he had in his professional life.
An ensemble piece set amidst survivors of a real-life deadly typhoon which devastated vast swathes of the Philippines in November 2013, Taklub offers engaging drama about individuals strugging to mourn lost loved ones and rebuild their normal lives at the same time. Driven by yet another remarkably restrained turn from Philippine cinema grand dame Nora Aunor – here reteaming with Mendoza after her award-winning turn in Thy Womb – Taklub could very well head onwards for a long festival run after its premiere at the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes.
While visible injuries like gashed foreheads and broken legs abound, it’s the psychological scars which hit the hardest. By shunning straightforward melodramatic exposition of all the varied tragic back stories, Mendoza and screenwriter Honeylyn Joy Alipio allow their characters to slowly and gently reveal their anguish and pain.
It’s only through her unused mugs with children’s photos and her partaking in a DNA test that one speculates snack bar proprietor Bebeth (Aunor) of having lost all her children but one (Shine Santos) during the disaster; similarly, it’s through his battle with bureaucrats that we learn of young fisherman Erwin (Aaron Rivera) and his two siblings of having lost their parents. Making up this collective of anguished souls is Larry (Julio Diaz), a tricycle driver coming to terms with the death of her wife through religious zeal, and Renato (Lou Veloso), the pensioner who lost his whole family in the fire at the beginning of the film.

PhilCare Adopts I.T. to Health Care availment through NFC Technology
Last Friday Sept. 11, 2015, Phil Care had a Masquerade Party on their office for the launching of their new IT Infrastructure allowing their members to benefit from having their health card be checked via NFC card technology. This was the first attempt in this industry having this kind of technology specially here in the Philippines.
NFC, the radio frequency technology considered by experts worldwide as “the next best thing” in mobile transaction, continues its integration in the Philippines – this time providing much needed upgrade in the way healthcare is delivered to thousands of Filipinos.
This after leading health care provider PhilCare came up and put in operation NFC-capable membership cards designed to make availment of health services from hospitals faster, more efficient, and close to paperless.
PhilCare is the first health care provider in the Philippines to adopt and actually put into use cards with near field communication NFC technologies.
“We are proud to introduce this new technology to the HMO industry. We’ve been looking for the best technology to make medical services smoother and more convenient for our clients and providers and NFC seems to be the perfect fit for this goal,” said Noemi G. Azura, PhilCare’s President and CEO.
The NFC-capable card means to do away with the usual tedious process of availing health services from health maintenance organizations (HMO). With a single tap, hospitals and clinics can now determine coverage and benefits of a member, as well as other details of the member’s account.
Basic consultations and procedures will also be processed faster with just a single tap, since it will no longer require long waiting times just to confirm coverage. Thanks to this new innovation, members only need to hand over their NFC-enabled health cards to any of the 200 service providers of PhilCare with NFC-capable phones from Samsung.
Making this transaction possible is NFC, a form of wireless, radio-wave technology that allows two objects – a reader device and a storage device – to send and receive information via brief contact.
The NFC technology is used by banks, retail, transport, and service providers worldwide and has been deployed to accommodate wireless payments.
This new technology is the first of its kind in the Philippine health care industry and allows patient information to be updated in real-time, ensuring quick, efficient, and accurate service.
“We are very excited with this technology and in the future we hope to set up a rewards program for members with the NFC cards,” Azura said.
“All these innovations are geared towards providing best-in-class customer service to our members. This is just the start of our foray into NFC technology, which will be part of an ecosystem all intended to bring a new brand of bridging access to health care for our members,” Azura added.
The launch of its new membership cards is only one of the many innovations PhilCare has set up to affirm its position as a pioneer in the health care industry.
In 2013, PhilCare launched its mobile application GO! Mobile, becoming the first HMO provider to bring the service to its members.
PhilCare’s Go! Mobile app is designed as a quick reference guide for members on their coverage and benefits while also giving access to complete lists of PhilCare-affiliated hospitals, clinics, and doctors.
Just last year, the mobile app introduced various updates in addition to being made compatible with iOS devices alongside Android devices. With GO! Mobile, PhilCare members no longer need to call any hotline for provider information since it is made available right at their fingertips.
In addition to its mobile app, PhilCare also recently launched its eCommerce website, becoming the first HMO provider to offer online purchases for its health care packages.
ONE TAP CLOSER TO BETTER HEALTH WITH PHILCARE
PhilCare is bringing the first NFC-Enabled HMO Card in the Philippines
Convinient and Efficient – Be assured of quick, efficient and accurate service with just one tap of your card on the NFC terminal. Easy viewing of membership benefits – Your eligibility status and membership benefits are immediately confirmed, Real Time update of member records – Patient information updated in real time – the first of its kind in the Philippines healthcare industry. Quick approval of letter of Authorization (LOA) request for consultations and selected outpatient procedures.
With a single tap, hospitals and clinics can now determine coverage and benefits of a member’s account
About PhilCare: Established in 1982, PhilCare is one of the country’s pioneering Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) companies. Samsung Digital Cooking Experience with Chef Earnest Gala
Last Friday, I have had another chance to experience the 6th Samsung Digital Experience with Chef Earnest Gala who seem to have wisely and magnificently engineered the taste of every kind of cooking a specific dish through Samsung’s Digital Multi Cooker.
This time Chef Earnest dwells on Italian dish the Linguine Pasta with Crab Fat which is so good and the Chicken Tomato with Mozerella.
For me the amazing part is the Chicken because for a total of 12 minutes the chicken was being cooked well and It was one of the most amazing part for a microwave size of Multicooker can do specially with Samsungs brand.
For a Single or Married Guy this kind of cooking will be one of the wisest option considering the work load that you may have for the day. Its just almost preparing a Fast Food menu but with this a very hearty kind of meal that you may ever have had in this fast paced world we live in.
2GO Travel, MMPI Launch New Travel Show, Tr!pinas on GMA News TV
“Loving the islands, feeling the fun; these are the islands of our dreams… Philippines…”
So says the chorus of the theme song to the latest travel show to hit Philippine television, tr!pinas.
The show is the brainchild of 2GO Travel Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Stephen Tagud and Marnie Manicad, Executive Producer and Director of Marnie Manicad Productions International (MMPI).
Mr. Tagud says “The idea came about when we wanted to feature different destinations in the Philippines, especially little-known locations easily overshadowed by Boracay, Palawan, and Cebu. It came up in a conversation with Director Marnie Manicad, and now, we’re finally launching tr!pinas.”
Ms. Manicad on the other hand says, “This show is a synergy of our strengths and expertise. Stephen being an expert on the travel industry, and myself on TV production.”
tr!pinas, a weekly travel show, will premier on September 5, Saturday, at 11am on GMA News TV. As the name suggests, each episode features a trip around the Philippines, with a specific focus on overlooked but equally beautiful locations, such as Cambugahay Falls in Siquijor, the setting of the pilot episode.
Joining Stephen on his adventures is Solenn Heussaff, the multi-faceted artist, model, fashion designer, and painter.
Both Stephen and Solenn, who are music lovers themselves, sang the theme song for tr!pinas.
Solenn says, “This was an opportunity not just to travel around the Philippines, but to show Filipinos and the rest of the world how much more beautiful this country is – it’s really the island of our dreams. And to sing the theme song alongside my co-host? What a treat!”
The show is brought to life by 2GO Travel in partnership with MMPI.
